Mixed bag for Bloods

A FIVE goal last quarter wasn’t enough for Terang Mortlake to get over the line in the round 10 senior football match against Camperdown on Saturday.

The Bloods’ under 16s had a strong 35-point win over Camperdown last weekend, showing versatility and skill all over the ground.

The Magpies held on to score a two-point win, 13.9.87 to 12.13.85 at the Leura Oval, handing the Bloods their second loss to the Magpies in 2025.

“It was a decent game with plenty of momentum swings,” Terang Mortlake co-captain Joe Arundell said.

“Camperdown made the most of their chances.”

The game of coach Lewy Taylor, who had 37 possessions and kicked five goals, drew praise from Arundell.

“Lewy couldn’t have done much more to get us over the line.

“He played one of the best last quarters you’d ever see.”

Recruits Trent West and Colin O’Riordan, both in their second game in Bloods colours, were also in the best.

“Westy was a strong presence in the ruck and gave us a great target,” Arundell said.

“Colin was really good, he has good pace and his skill is an asset.”

Arundell made his 150th senior appearance for Terang Mortlake in this match, a milestone he is proud of at the club he has played his whole career at.

“It’s taken a long time to get to 150, feels like my 100th was a long time ago,” Arundell said.

“There’s been plenty of injuries and the Covid interruptions in that time.”

Arundell, a three-time club best and fairest who had 42 possessions in the round nine win over Warrnambool, is enjoying his football.

“The body is feeling good and despite the result on Saturday I feel like we are going well.”

Still right in the mix in the finals race, Arundell is upbeat.

“It’s such an even competition, anyone can beat anyone on their day.

“Our best is right up there in the competition.”
