POMBORNEIT’S division one side travelled to Boorcan for the first time in several years on Saturday, the home winning the toss and electing to bat.

Finn Tolland was joined by Tharaka Sendanayke with the new ball, both taking early wickets to have the Dragons in trouble.

Boorcan dug in for the rest of the innings and batted out their overs, but the Bulls’ bowlers bowled tightly and made scoring hard for the entire 50 overs; the Dragons finishing on 8/124.

Sendanayake and Danussika Bandara the most successful with two wickets each, conceding 19 and 30 runs respectively.

Finn Tolland (1/21 from nine), skipper Matt Bignell (1/20 from 10) and Gavin Reynolds (0/15 from eight) all bowled well.

Pomborneit overtook Boorcan’s score in the 22nd over for the loss of four wickets.

Opener Dave Murphy hit 58 off 46 ball including five fours, his third half century of the season so far.

Murphy was well supported by former skipper Grant Place who made 35 from 36 balls, as the division one Bulls recorded their fourth win for season 2023/24.

This week Pomborneit will take on last season’s grand finalist Cobden at Cobden.

Pombo’s division two team won the toss and batted first against Camperdown at the Camperdown Lakes number two oval.

After skipper Matt Richardson was dismissed in the first over, partnerships of 34 for the second wicket between Garry Riches and Luke Reynolds, and 71 for the third wicket between Luke Reynolds and Stephen Walters set the platform for the Bulls to set up a decent score.

Reynolds top scored with 51 from 62 balls, including seven fours and a six, while Walters' innings of 39 from 40 balls included five fours.

Ben Whytcross continued his good form, making 22, while a 58-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Daniel Missen and senior debutante Levi Cootesmith boosted the total to 7/199 from their 40 overs.

Missen made 38 from 44 balls including four boundaries.

Cootesmith was particularly impressive in his first innings at senior level, making 19 from 23 balls, hitting three fours and a six.

Hunter Reynolds continued his superb form with the new ball, taking 3/16 from eight overs straight (all three wickets were bowled).

Camperdown worked their way back into the game with some good batting but ultimately were all out in the 36th over for 164; spinners Luke Reynolds and Daniel Missen taking two wickets each.

The division three Bulls hosted Boorcan at MCP Oval and batting first were restricted to 7/106 from their 40 overs.

Captain Tony Evans top scored with 40 while under 16 player Ollie Delaney played a patient, disciplined innings in making his highest score of 25.

Despite a strong bowling effort from the division three Bulls, 106 was not quite enough to defend, Boorcan passing the score in the 32nd over eight wickets down.

Brady Bernoth was particularly impressive with the new ball, taking 3/19 from eight overs, Tayla Reynolds took two wickets and George Sadler took his first senior wicket in his second game, finishing with 1/15 from 5.3 overs.

The Pomborneit Gold women travelled to Apollo Bay on Sunday.

The home team won the toss and batted first, making 6/83 from their 20 overs.

Jess Moulden took 2/18 from her four overs, with a wicket each to Sam Coxon, Tayla Reynolds and Rachel Dendle.

The batting reply from the Gold team was impressive, not losing a wicket on their way to 0/124 from 20 overs.

Openers Sam Coxon and Jess Moulden both made 30 retired, while Rachel Dendle finished on 33 retired as Gold recorded an impressive win ahead of this week’s bye.

The Pomborneit Maroon women hosted Carlisle River at MCP Oval.

Batting first after winning the toss they finished on 5/91 from their 20 overs.

Lily Van Es top scored with 20, Emily Norman retired on 13 and Debra Reynolds made 10.

Carlisle River got off to a good start despite some impressive bowling from senior debutante Jada Mahony and new ball partner Lily Van Es, and continued steadily until passing Maroon's score in the 18th over.

Debra Reynolds took two wickets with one each to Lily Van Es and Janelle Whitehead for Maroon.

This Sunday sees Maroon take on Simpson at Simpson.
