Mixed bag for Cobden bowlers
COBDEN Bowls Club’s division one mid-week pennant side enjoyed a close victory over Simpson last week.
The team defeated the visitors 64-57 and now sits fifth on the ladder, percentage below Central.
Denis Delaney, Peter Richardson, Sue Couch and Brian Howard won 27-19 overo L. Costin, P. Inglis, B. Newcombe and M. Gass.
Ann Scott, Trevor Roberts, Bert Strampel and Doreen Coverdale also won 23-19, defeating A. Swayn, R. Methven, T. Harris and G. Langenhauizen.
Margaret Hester, Bazil Hammond, Elaine Telford and Loreign Andrews went down to M. Seabrook, E. Andres, C. Dixon and H. Hayden.
This week they will take on second-placed Winchelsea on their home turf for a tough test before the Christmas break.
Bottom placed City 2 defeated Cobden’s division two team on all three rinks, making the most of their home ground advantage (85-54).
G. Maloney, P. Nolan, R. Silk and H. Bentley defeated Joy Beaton, Kath Spokes, Ann Coverdale and Patsy Neal 31-16.
D. Cowan, S. Theodore, V. Egan and S. Barry defeated Janelle Rohan, Paul Dwyer, Evelyn Grayland and David Childs 30-21.
Claire Reynolds, Colin Spokes, David Luker and Des Couch went down 17-24 to J. Mills, B. Woods, J. DeGraff and M. Bennett.
Cobden remains at sixth spot on the ladder.
Cobden’s division two weekend pennant team has maintained the same position on the ladder at third, still two points behind Winchelsea, after defeating Colac 2 under the dome 90-77.
Terry Beasley, Darren Mulgrew, Brendan Hutt and Kathryn Robertson won 28-15 over T. Watson, B. Casey, J. Murfitt and G. Murfitt.
Colin Hammond, Brendan Hammond, Murray Williamson and Tom Robertson went down to R. Hutchinson, G. Brown, G. McNabb and P. Halliday 13-25.
Noah Mungean, Greg Rooke, Ben Robertson and Bazil Hammond just got home from N. Paatsch, J. Finn, P. Neale and A. Salmon 23-21.
Nick Kemp, Ashley Sinnott, Peter Richardson and Lachie Taylor won 26-16 from T. Nelson, L. Williamson, W. Brady and B. Conway.
In division three, Cobden has dropped to fourth place after a disappointing loss at home to lower placed Central 76-84.
Trevor Roberts, Kath Spokes, Colin Whiteside and Jim O’Shea defeated M. Dowie, M. Armistead, T. Sanson and D. Ladhams 27-14.
Richard McVilly, Ken Lynch, Jeff Hester and Don Anderson lost 20-23 to L. Armistead, L. Evans, J. Russell and G. Wade.
Leon Carrigan, Janelle Rohan, Keith Simmonds and Brian Howard lost 13-28 to J. Langdon, D. Phillips, E. Page and R. Isaacs.
David Staggard, Bert Strampel, Geoff Ovens and David Luker were defeated by E. Ivermee, A. Walter, K. Arundell and R. Hill 16-19.
Division four has made its way into the top four just before the Christmas break with a nice win over higher placed Colac 4, 59-50.
Claire Reynolds, Loreign Andrews, Evelyn Grayland and Peter Giblett won 19-13 over D. Hutchinson, E. Hay, H. Ezard and S. Gormley.
Doreen Coverdale, Paul Dwyer, John Raeside and Ken Farquharson won 24-14 against J. Barrow, P. Thompson, P. Maher and G. Riches.
Joy Beaton, Garry Matheson, Des Couch and Janine Hutt lost 16-23 to G. Gourley, N. Quigley, S. Nelson and C. Cardinal.
