AFTER a competitive first three quarters Terang Mortlake dropped away in the last to lose at Camperdown by four goals.
The Bloods got off to a slow start, trailing by 14 points at quarter time, but battled back in the second to go into the major break 5.11 (41) to the Magpies’ 7.3 (45).
Good performances by forward Hugh Porter, who kicked two goals, and midfielders Brodhi Carracher, Jarryd Hay and Xavier Vickers kept Terang Mortlake in touch for most of the game.
However, the Bloods’ offence dried up in the final period, kicking only 1.1 to 3.2 in the last quarter to finish 9.14 (68) to Camperdown 14.8 (92).
This week the side hosts Port Fairy, who suffered a massive 200-point loss to North Warrnambool last Saturday, and the Bloods will no doubt be looking forward to taking advantage of the Seagulls’ fragility.
In other Hampden League football results, Warrnambool lost at home to Portland, South Warrnambool beat Cobden on the road and Koroit defeated Hamilton by 88 points.
On the netball court the Bloods edged out Camperdown, as both sides looked to assess the results of their respective restructures in the off-season.
Terang Mortlake finished two goals up in the 40-38 contest in match Bloods coach Sharon Kenna said would be a good litmus test for her side.
This week Kenna’s side will hope to continue its winning run against Port Fairy, which lost to North Warrnambool 34-42.
In other Hampden League netball, Koroit beat Hamilton 73-39, Cobden lost to South Warrnambool, and Warrnambool defeated Portland.
