Mixed results for Bombers
LAST Saturday’s Hampden League preliminary final round brought mixed results for the Cobden Bombers.
A nail-biting three-point win over South Warrnambool has earned the Bombers’ reserve footballers a spot in this Saturday’s grand final against North Warrnambool.
Over on the netball courts, the club’s Open grade netballers fell just five goals short, defeated by Koroit 44-39.
Senior coach Sophie Hinkley said while her side was disappointed not to have made it through to this weekend’s grand final, they are proud of their achievements.
“The girls were all pretty flat after the game, understandably, but in saying that we’re also very proud of the season we’ve had,” Hinkley said.
“It was a great game that certainly had lots of momentum shifts but unfortunately some of those went Koroit’s way at the right time.
“We were up by five at half-time but lost it in the second.
Koroit’s defensive pressure was relentless and when they moved Indi (O’Connor) to goal shooter she dominated and we struggled to curb that.
“Sadly, Emily (Finch) went down with a significant injury (believed to be a torn achilles) in the final quarter so it would have been difficult to go into the grand final without her.”
In the reserves football preliminary final, Cobden booked a spot in this Saturday’s grand final after defeating top-of-the-table South Warrnambool 5.11.41 to 5.8.38.
Best players for the Bombers were Jack Hutt, Noah Mounsey, Lachie Davis, Harrison Herschell, Louis Robertson and Joe Hutt.
Mounsey kicked two goals for the Bombers while Tully Darcy, Luke Hickey and Joshua Worboys added one each.
