Last week in Tuesday social pennant was round-robin day.
This social day saw players enjoya game of bowls in mixed-up triples teams with people they don’t normally play with.
Thirty-five players attended in 12 teams and the day was quite pleasant weather-wise.
At the end of the day, there was only one three-game winner in Paul Delaney, Graeme Arkinstall and Graeme Broderick.
The runners-up for the day on two wins and a draw were Peter Palmer, R Perkins and Leo Smith.
Mortlake thanks everyone who played in the round-robin, to all the fill-ins (especially Dianne Robertson and Gertie MacDonald), Alan Puzey for speaking on the day, Ian MacDonald for organising the event, Scott Pierce for running the day, Frank Robertson for the raffle and everyone else who helped make this day a great one.
Next week Mortlake White will play Timboon and Mortlake Blue will play Camperdown at Mortlake.
Come down and watch some live bowls action in your home town, starting at 11am. Free entry and everyone welcome.
Last Sunday saw the running of the West Coast Bowls Region Novice Singles.
The novice singles are an event for bowlers starting out in the sport to compete against similarly-skilled players.
Mortlake had two entries in Alan and Anthony Wood.
The previous weekend, both Alan and Anthony won their first two rounds to get to the quarter finals, only to meet each other last Sunday.
Anthony won the battle of the Woods’ and then Anthony faced Ian Swain (City) in the semi-finals.
Anthony defeated Ian before meeting Matt Hatfield (Warrnambool) in the grand final.
From all reports, the heads were tight and not much wiggle-room for either player to make a move.
Anthony fought valiantly and the club congratulates Anthony on being the West Coast Region Mens Novice Singles runner-up.
A fantastic effort in your first year of bowls and hope to see much more success in your future.
A reminder that twilight bowls is available for players of all abilities.
