THE 124th Mortlake Rose Show provided a burst of colour to the town over the weekend.

Flowers were scattered throughout Soldier’s Memorial Hall as the region’s green thumbs showcased their talents.

Mortlake Rose Show co-ordinator Pam Walmsley said the show was a success despite some hiccups due to an “unprecedented, last minute” unavailability of key personnel.

“We had a reasonable amount of entries but we were very disappointed with the amount of handcrafts which came in,” she said.

“It has generally been a growing area so we’re not quite sure what happened there.

“Overall the entries were on par with last year despite wild winds and rain in the past month which certainly has had an impact.”

Ms Walmsley said attendance was down but new entrants provided an overall boost.

“It was great to see a couple of new exhibitors in the floral section of the show,” she said.

“Thank you to the kinder for the cake stall and Mortlake College for doing the luncheon, they were pleased with their results, and thank you to Wayne for having his plants there Saturday and Sunday.

“Those were key features we had returning for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Thank you to everyone for their patience and understanding due to some issues with volunteer unavailability. Our team coped as best as they could, and we’re thankful for their efforts in stepping up.”
