After attracting about 450 entries to last year’s Camperdown Car and Bike Show, organisers are confident of a similar response this weekend. Committee member Andrew Searle said it was the first year ‘pre entry’ tickets had been offered, which had been well taken-up. “Just Cars magazine has also been promoting the event and we’re getting a great response from that coverage,” he said. “We also have had some great promotions from Greased ‘n’ Gassed YouTube. “There’s been good interest from interstate entries and plenty of enquiries from Melbourne as well, including from custom bike clubs.” While the weather forecast may not be for blue skies, Mr Searle said comfortable temperatures were predicted with little, if any rain making it ideal for the show. “I welcome everyone from Camperdown and surrounds to come along and enjoy the day, there’ll certainly be plenty to see,” he said.

Organisers have reminded locals and visitors that both Manifold Street and its service road will be closed for the event between Brooke Street and Cressy Street throughout tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) Show ‘n’ Shine.

A detour for through traffic will be in place along Cressy Street and Old Geelong Road.

Organiser Andrew Searle said more categories had been introduced this year including trucks and, to encourage younger enthusiasts, lowrider bicycles and karts with 90cc engines.

“With the way the phone is ringing I expect we’ll get more entries than last year,” he said.

“We’ve had an increased amount of calls this year and are expecting more than 500 vehicles attending Saturday’s Show ‘n’ Shine.”

The day will also include about 30 car-related stallholders.

Mr Searle said no food traders had been invited to ensure existing local traders had a successful day.

“We’re really happy to work with the Corangamite Shire and local businesses – they’ve been fantastic for us and we’re grateful for their support,” he said.

“This is potentially turning into a large show which will benefit the community and businesses.”

Shire mayor Neil Trotter said the show was one of 14 events the council supported through its Events and Festivals Grants program.

“This type of event adds to the vibrant lifestyle of our shire and attracts visitors who contribute to the local economy by buying food, fuel and accommodation while they are here,” he said.

“I’d like to invite everyone across the region to come down and enjoy this great family-friendly event.”
