Mortlake looks to finals

MORTLAKE Bowls Club’s midweek pennant division three and four teams have contested grand finals.

The teams headed to City Memorial last Tuesday.

After fighting hard all year to reach the final, both sides were defeated.

Mortlake Purple (div. 3) lost to City Zircon 28-41.

A van Diemen lost to T Phillips 13-25 and V Smith lost to B Smail 15-16.

Mortlake Green (div. 4) lost to City Jade 19-53.

G MacDonald lost to G Husband 11-32 and L O'Shannessy lost to L Williams 8-21.

This was a fantastic effort from both sides throughout the year - next year will be yours.

This Saturday will see Mortlake’s weekend pennant division one side fight for grand final glory.

Mortlake Blue (div. 1) will play City Red at City Memorial.

Good luck to Mortlake Blue. Actions starts at 1pm and regardless of the result, there will be nibbles after the match at the clubrooms from 6.30pm.

Last Friday the Women’s Invitational Fours Tournament was run and won at Mortlake.

Twelve teams from all over the district including Grangeburn came for a day of bowls and friendship and in the end, the team from Lawn Tennis/Terang won the day.

Congratulations to Marian Treweek,Val Grundy, Rose Alderman and Jenny Fowler.

Runners-up for the day were the team from Timboon, Dianne Finch, Dawn McDowell, Sandra Trigg and Fiona Newey.

Congratulations to the winners and runners-up.

Looking to Club Championship news, the pairs finals are heating up with the final to be played on the afternoon of Sunday, March 3 from 1pm.

Good luck to the women’s pairs, Val Smith and Sandra Richie vs Dianne Robertson and Gert MacDonald.

Good luck also to the mens pairs - Dave McNicoll and Dwayne Dolling vs Colin Goldsworthy and Darren Grant.

A reminder to the mixed pairs players that round one has byes in it and teams without byes should play as soon as possible to allow bye teams to complete their matches in a timely fashion.

All queries should be directed to the match committee.

Last Wednesday, twilight bowls was cancelled due to extreme weather and will resume next week when conditions are much nicer.
