Moyne shopfronts set for council-funded improvement
EIGHT businesses across Moyne Shire will share in $23,000 to give their shop fronts a new lease on life.
At Tuesday’s council meeting, funding for the 2024/25 Business Facade Improvement Program was awarded to businesses in Port Fairy, Mortlake, Peterborough and Koroit.
Moyne Shire mayor Karen Foster said the program, which has been running since 2021, had been successful with more than 80 businesses to-date benefiting from the funding.
“With more people getting out and about, an attractive shopping strip will entice people to stop and spend in our local communities,” she said.
“With up to $5000 available to businesses looking to update, clean or refresh their shop fronts the program has been well subscribed.
“Works such as refreshing outdoor dining spaces, sign repainting and verandah repairs are sure to be well received with the advantages of the program seeming to extend beyond the business itself with many local trades people also benefiting.”
List of successful applicants:
Peterborough House, Peterborough - $5000 for removal of garden and paving, installation of large sliding door and new entry awning;
Commercial Hotel, Panmure - $2000 for repainting sign writing of business name;
Ted’s Café, Peterborough - $2500 for construction of outdoor bench seating incorporating a community herb garden and signage;
Seacombe House, Port Fairy - $4500 for facade painting and repainting 11 windows.
Koroit Newsagency, Koroit - $1050 for repairs to façade and windows and repairs to front verandah;
Rebecca’s Café, Port Fairy - $2250 for repainting of facade and windows, upgrade to signage and repairs to verandah;
Earth and Water Technologies, Mortlake - $1000 for installation of business signage; and
Confectionery Shop and Ladies Clothing, Port Fairy - $5000 for full exterior clean, removal of metal work rust and repainting both facades in heritage colours.
