MOUNT Shadwell Quarry has ramped up production thanks to a $1.5 million equipment upgrade delivered through Moyne Shire Council.

The quarry, which is considered to be among council’s most important commercial businesses, recently took delivery of vital new equipment which was expected to set it up for another decade of production.

A new crusher and screening plant was delivered to the Mount Shadwell Quarry in Mortlake earlier this month, and has already been in use producing various sized scoria products.

Moyne Shire Council mayor Karen Foster said more than $1.5 million was invested in the cone crusher and three deck screen.

She said the new equipment would meet the quarry’s output forecasts for the next ten years and has an output potential of up to 300 tonnes per hour.

“This significant new self-funded investment of over $1 million represents council’s commitment to quarrying operations at Mount Shadwell,” Cr Foster said.

“The new crusher is much safer than its predecessor, and capable of greater output.

“The quarry supplies high quality materials to local farmers, trades and construction industries and is an important source of materials for our own road upgrade projects.

“It’s a vital commercial business arm for council and in the last financial year has brought in close to $2 million in revenue.”

Cr Foster said council had undertaken a thorough procurement process, which included independent assessment.
