Mural leaves a lasting reminder
A MOMENTOUS milestone will be celebrated in Cobden this weekend with the community helping to mark the occasion.

A MOMENTOUS milestone will be celebrated in Cobden this weekend with the community helping to mark the occasion.
On Sunday residents are invited to the Cobden Miniature Railway to celebrate Cobden and Districts and Camperdown Community Bank giving out $750,000 in donations.
Branch board chair Pat Robertson said the free community event was yet another way the bank can give back to the community which continues to support it.
“It’s (the day) about celebrating the fact the community bank has been able to donate $750,000 to community groups,” she said.
“We want to share that celebration with the community so we’re having a free event at the Cobden Miniature Railway.
“We’re looking forward to it.”
Mrs Robertson was pleased to reach the milestone.
“It’s a lot of community groups that have benefited from the contributions of the bank over the last 15 years,” she said.
“We couldn’t have done it without the local people supporting us.
“We give back to our local community as a result of the community supporting us.”
As part of the celebrations a special mural was commissioned on the side of the Cobden branch which gives a nod to the bank’s history in the community.
“As part of the celebrations we decided we would leave something lasting in the town and the idea was to have a mural that showcases some the community groups we have supported,” Mrs Robertson said.
“It was an ordinary plain wall before and now people are stopping.”
Renowned district artist Jimmi Buscombe completed the work.
“I would really like to thank him for the mural and I would like to thank the Cobden and District Historical Society for suppling Jimmi with the photographs for the mural,” Mrs Robertson said.
The community celebration day, to be held at the Cobden Miniature Railway precinct in Grayland Street Cobden, will be held on Sunday between 11am and 3pm.
