Mural proves a talking point
CURDIE Street in Cobden got a new piece of art recently.

Artist Stacey Williams completed a live painting on the outside of the temporary building site at the new Hampden Vet premises.
Alderwood Manor’s Chelsea Hatherall organised the live painting as part of the recent Music at the Manor event.
“Music at the Manor kicked off with an accessible free component to the event,” she said.
“With pop up companion events in both Nell’s Café and Kin and Folk, both hosting musicians and the new Hampden vet site allowing a live, mural painter to create something special while onlookers also enjoyed the sounds of the Corangamite School Strings Orchestra.
“Local young musician Bryce Suter strummed his guitar to people awaiting stone fired pizza too.
“From 7pm the ticketed event kicked off with live music performances by Leslie D King, Flynn Gurry, Ally Row and Harry Hook and Alex Black.”
Ms Williams said Ms Hatherall had organised funding for the live painting, which turned out to be a bigger piece than she imagined.
“I expanded my design and bought more paint on the way down,” she said.
“I’m really happy with how it turned out.”
Ms Williams said the painting took about three hours to complete.

She said it was positive to see residents stopping to chat with her as she created the Australiana inspired piece.
“It’s so nice to get such positive reactions when you’re painting,” Ms Williams said.
“It opened up conversations with people.”
Ms Williams, who is based in Geelong, is no stranger to the area and regularly hosts ‘Paint and Sip’ events across the region.
“I’ve been painting ever since I could hold a brush,” she said.
“I was a graphic designer for a long time. Now I’m a freelance artist and do private commissions.
“I also run Paint and Sip events around the region. It’s the biggest joy of my life to teach people to paint.”
