Narrow loss for Ecklin
ECKLIN narrowly missed out on a fifth win for the season on Saturday, losing to City United by a wicket in the round 13 Colac-South West premier cricket match at Colac's Eastern Reserve.
The Frogs won the toss and elected to bat first on the turf wicket and were dismissed for 141 in the 41st over.
Skipper Jamie Dewell top scored with 52 from 54 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes, with opener Will Layley making 20.
City United's run chase was tight all the way through as regular wickets fell.
Harry Carter took the eighth wicket with United still needing 23 runs from nine overs.
The home team put on 18 for the ninth wicket, Carter striking again in the 37th over.
United's last pair scraped home with three balls remaining to seal the win.
Carter finished with 3/19 from nine overs, with Neil Gowland, Harry Bee and Dewell taking two wickets each in the loss.
This week Ecklin has the bye in the premier competition.
In division two, Ecklin had a 185 run loss to Cobden at Cobden.
The home amassed 5/308, David Childs the pick of the Ecklin bowlers with 2/32 from eight overs.
In reply, the Frogs were all out for 123.
Openers Chris Moutray, with 28 from 37 balls, and Troy Logan, with a run a ball 24 were the top scorers.
This week the division two Frogs play Heytesbury-Princetown Purple at Timboon.
In division three, Ecklin had a 96 run loss to Cobden at Ecklin.
The visitors batted first, posting 4/208.
Captain Tim Carroll led the bowlers with 2/31 from eight overs.
In reply the Frogs were all out for 112, Sohaib Shahid making 32 from 23 balls.
This Saturday Ecklin's division three team will host Pomborneit Maroon at Ecklin.
After last week's washout, tonight's final round women's game sees Ecklin play Bookaar at Ecklin.
On Monday night, the under 13 Frogs defeated Boorcan at Ecklin.
Boorcan batted first, making 5/109.
A good batting performance from the junior Frogs saw the home team post 2/118 in reply.
Maximus Timms top scored with 22 in the win.
The Ecklin under 13s play their final game of the season this Monday night against Heytesbury-Princetown at Timboon.
