National title for former local

FORMER Camperdown man Warren Heath has claimed a third Australian class win at the recent Australian Hillclimb Championships in South Australia.

After class wins in 2022 and 2023, and a tight second-place last year, Warren claimed back first place this year with a comfortable win and another record set in the Improved Production 0-1600cc class.

Several Victorian drivers made the trek to the world-class motorsport complex at Tailem Bend earlier this month for the event.

This was the first time the championships had been held at the facility.

“The venue was outstanding,” Warren said.

“It’s a state-of-the-art world class motorsport complex that hosts multiple types of events.”

After a mixed year of competition in the Victorian Hillclimb Championship, Warren finished second in the Victorian title this year.

Unfortunately, he didn’t do enough rounds in his car to qualify for the minimum number of events competed in.

“I spent some time in former local Alan Foley’s open wheel race car this year, and in doing so missed out on points with my own car,” Warren said.

“But the experience driving Alan’s race car was well worth the sacrifice.

“Driving those types of cars adds another whole dimension with a lot of aerodynamic aid which takes a lot of getting used to.”

Warren will finish off the year with the upcoming ‘Legends of the Lakes’ at Mt Gambier, and also the ‘King of the Hill’ hill climbs, both events to be held in November.

“These last two events will see out my year of competition,” Warren said.

The 2026 Victorian Hillclimb Championships will see ano-ther round added locally at Camperdown’s Mt Leura, with the town set for two rounds next year.

“This is a great outcome for Camperdown; it was great to see so many locals backing the events in town and extremely encouraging to see so many spectators at the 2025 round at Mt Leura.

“With two rounds now set for Camperdown next year, this will be a great asset for the town.”

Warren encouraged anyone interested in getting involved, or being a spectator, to visit the Victorian Hillclimb Champi-onship website.
