FORMER Camperdown local and motorsport enthusiast Warren Heath has enjoyed success at the recent Australian Hillclimb Championships.
Heath brought home a win in the Improved Production (up to 1600cc) class for the second consecutive year.
The championships, which were held at Ringwood Park motorsport complete in New South Wales late last month, also saw Heath break a long-standing class record at the track.
Hillclimb racing is a timed motosport event, with a mixture of purpose built and closed road venues to compete at across the country.
It is one of the oldest forms of motorsport in Australia.
Warren, former Colac local Alan Foley and six other Victorians made the trip to Raymond Terrace in NSW for the prestigious event.
Heath’s self-built and prepared Ford Laser Sport Improved Production car has won its class in the Victorian series and Australian titles two consecutive years now, and has claimed a number of long-standing class records in the process.
Alan Foley’s car is built locally in Colac by his father Ron Foley, a mixture of spaceframe and carbon fibre, powered by a 1400cc Kawasaki motorbike engine, making it extremely light and very competitive.
Foley finished second in his class and sixth outright at the Australian title this year.
Both Heath and Foley have been motor racing from a very young age, with the emphasis on hillclimb racing among other circuit and speed events.
Both were happy with their results with many years of work and preparation on both their vehicles.
The AHC rotates venues on an annual basis, with the title due to be held at a Victorian track next year.
