Uniting Church member Brenda Parfett said the nativity scene told the story of Jesus’ birth and humble beginnings.

“The nativity scene typically includes a stable, animals, Mary and Joseph, and the baby Jesus in a manger,” she said.

“The stable represents the humble beginnings of Jesus – he was born in a manger because there was no room for him and his family in the inn.

“The animals represent the presence of all of God’s creatures, including the lowliest of creatures, in the moment of Jesus’ birth.

“The stable where Jesus was born represents humility and simplicity – it was a lowly place for the king of kings to be born, but it was fitting for the saviour of the world to enter the world in such a humble manner.

“The stable also represents the messiness of life and the fact that God meets us where we are, no matter how messy or broken our lives may be.”

Timboon Men’s Shed president John Wigley said they were approached by Mrs Parfett to create the nativity scene a few years ago and were happy to take the project on board.

“The first year we did Joseph, Mary, a cradle for Jesus and a couple of little lambs,” he said.

“The next year we did the three wise men and a couple more lambs.

“Then we did the donkey – we did it over three years.

“They’re made out of a marine-ply so they can withstand the weather.

“We cut them out and the church panted them.”

Mr Wigley and Mrs Parfett said the next step to the project would be making an angel and a star to complete the nativity scene.
