NBN works underway for C’down

TRAFFIC delays are expected throughout Camperdown over the coming weeks as works are undertaken to connect businesses and residents to the NBN network.

Works began this month, with tunnels being dug along Scott Street to allow for installation of NBN services.

NBN local south west regional development manager Jen Ganske said the works are part of the company’s fibre upgrade program.

“Under the fibre upgrade program, NBN is committed to making 3.5 million premises originally served by FTTN (fibre to the node) technology eligible to upgrade to an FTTP (fibre to the premise) service by the end of December 2025,” she said.

“Upgrading to full fibre delivers a range of benefits for customers, including smoother video calls, enhanced streaming, quicker response times for gaming, and the ability to connect more devices simultaneously, such as smart TVs, home security systems, and other smart home technology.

“This explosion in data consumption is being driven by the increased demand for high-definition streaming, online gaming and the number of connected devices using data intensive applications.

“The average Australian home now has around 22 connected devices, and it is expected to increase to 30 by 2030.”

The works currently underway will make the NBN FTTP network available to around 1600 homes and businesses in Camperdown.

Ms Ganske said there are simple steps residents can take to find out more about getting a fibre upgrade once the works are completed.

“Check your address on the NBN website – www.nbn.com.au/fibreupgrade – to see if you are eligible,” she said.

“If you are eligible, contact your preferred phone and internet provider and ask them about the eligible fibre upgrade plans they offer.

“Compare different plans and choose the one that best suits your needs and budget.

“Once you have selected a plan, your provider will arrange an appointment with a NBN technician to install the fibre equipment at your premises.”
