Netballers look to finals
COBDEN’S senior netballers survived a last quarter push from Koroit on the weekend to take the four points.
COBDEN’S senior netballers survived a last quarter push from Koroit on the weekend to take the four points.
The Bombers’ open side enjoyed a tough four-quarter battle with the Saints in wet conditions on Saturday.
Team vice-captain Molly Hutt said she was happy with the intensity her side was able to maintained throughout the game.
“Koroit is well known for its ability to come from behind,” Hutt said.
“We were up by about 10 or 11 goals at three-quarter time but they really came out firing in the last and we only managed to hold on by two goals."
“But we’re happy to take the win. Every win, and every game, at the tail end of the season is an important one.”
Final scores were 44-42.
Best for the Bombers were Emily Finch, Molly Hutt and Sophie Blain.
With finals firmly in their sights, the Bombers will take on fifth-placed Warrnambool this weekend, followed by Hamilton (currently 6th), North Warrnambool (3rd) and Terang Mortlake to finish the home and away season.
“Finals are fast approaching so we need to consolidate. We had a couple of crucial errors in our last quarter on Saturday and that’s something we need to tidy up,” Hutt said.
“We don’t look at where our opponents are on the ladder, we just focus on our game and how we can bring our best each week."
“Last time we met Hamilton we only won by about three goals and Warrnambool has no doubt come a long way this season too."
“North is always a good tussle and we’re looking forward to that.”
Hutt praised the efforts of fellow shooter Emily Finch and mid-courter Sophie Blain.
“Emily had another great game on Saturday and Sophie is crucial to our game; she’s a very reliable, consistent player. “
Cobden’s open win was the only one for the day on the courts for the Bombers.
Division one lost 37-42 with Eliza Duynhoven, Rebecca Dendle and Hannah Justin named best for the Bombers.
In division two, Hannah Anderson, Gabrielle Beames and Taylah McVilly were best in the team’s 28-40 defeat.
Division three went down 17-28. Best for the Bombers were Jasmine Hickey, Grace Dawson and Amy Kavenagh.
In the junior matches, the 17 and under side was defeated 30-50 (Grace Taylor, Laura Taylor and Jessica Bourchier best on court).
The 15 and unders lost 22-27 with Matilda Darcy and Claire Blain best on court.
And in the 13 and under game, the Bombers were defeated 8-48. Best on court was Milla Darcy.
