New approach for popular fundraiser

MORNING Melodies returned for the new year as the Terang Returned and Services League (RSL) approaches its major fundraiser with a fresh format.

The Terang RSL Hall was packed with a healthy crowd despite the busy nature of the Australia Day public holiday, which Terang RSL president Dianne Meade said she hoped would be an example of what was to come this year.

“We’re very excited for the year coming,” she said.

“We had our first session for the year on January 26, which is always a little quieter on a public holiday, but we had in excess of 80 people.

“It was fantastic.”

The RSL this year will be aiming to have a rotating line-up of musicians performing each month, bringing a fresh approach to every Morning Melodies session.

“I think everyone appreciates what we’re trying to do,” she said.

“It’s all falling into place.

“We’ll be running through each month except December, even April which will be pretty big as it is only a few days before Anzac Day.”

Morning Melodies serves as a major fundraiser for the Terang RSL sub-branch, with all proceeds assisting members in all aspects of operations from supporting veterans and their families through to boosting efforts to make the hall a thriving hub of memorabilia.

“Entry is just $10, which includes a raffle ticket for great prizes which are kindly donated by local business,” she said.

“We get such great sponsorship such as from Terang Country Bakery, the Terang Co-op and the Wheatsheaf Hotel.

“It’s been great, because we get people visiting who then go and support local businesses through buying lunch or even visiting the Op-Shop across the road.

“But everything we raise goes straight back to everything we do.”

Morning Melodies is held at the Terang RSL Hall at 1 Shadforth Street, Terang, from 10am-12noon on the fourth Monday of the month.
