Cr Kate Makin officially launched the plan which council had endorsed at its October meeting.

Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism (GORRT) general manager Liz Price was emcee.

“As part of the plan development operators, businesses and groups told us that they wanted more opportunities to know what was on offer across the shire,” Cr Makin said.

“Partly as a result of that feedback council arranged this event with the theme ‘Putting the Plan into Action’ as an opportunity for industry stakeholders to meet and explore how they can work together.

“Some of the attendees had never been to the Elephant Bridge Hotel so from the moment they arrived they were making new connections and learning more about what opportunities Corangamite has to offer.”

After the official launch, attendees participated in a speed networking activity designed to foster connections and raise awareness of others in the industry.

“There was so much excited conversation,” Cr Makin said.

“It was a really excellent atmosphere.”

Council has worked with GORRT to develop a new Destination Action Plan for the whole shire, tying together the existing destination action plans for Volcanic Lakes and Plains, and 12 Apostles Coast and Hinterland.

It lists objectives and actions for six priority themes – product and experience development, brand awareness and marketing, industry development, collaboration and community, visitor management, visitor servicing and advocacy, infrastructure and investment.
