New home for iconic Garvoc fundraiser
GARVOC District Residents Incorporated will again host the annual Goods and Services Auction as part of its Good Friday Appeal this weekend.

GARVOC District Residents Incorporated will again host the annual Goods and Services Auction as part of its Good Friday Appeal this weekend.
The auction has seen Garvoc locals raising thousands of dollars each year for the Royal Children’s Hospital since the event began in the 90s.
In 2021, the auction raised just shy of $21,000 to benefit those who need it most.
Garvoc District Residents Incorporated president Adam Bellman said the opportunity to raise money for a great cause was always exciting.
“We’ve once again had a great number of donations from the local community,” he said.
“We’ve got a few new people on the committee who are keen to make this year a success so we’d like to smash the $21,000 we raised last year.
“It’s all for the kids. That’s what it’s about and we’ve been going strong for nearly 30 years now.”
While the auction is all about raising money in support of Victorian kids who are doing it tough, buyers can again expect the opportunity to walk away with a wide array of goods and services.
“Two jars of Tinki Bellman’s yo-yo biscuits will be up for auction, and one of those jars last year went for over $450 so that’s always a treat for members of the community,” Mr Bellman said.
“We’ve got all sorts of things from vouchers for day spas and local businesses including the Terang Co-op and Pontings in Warrnambool.
“There is a mix of stuff with something for everyone.”
All items have been donated by locals and local businesses to help raise much-needed funds.
“It’s great for the community to put it together, with a team of about 20 or 30 people seeking out the donations and putting it all together for Tim Healy and Jack Kelly to
auction off.”
The event will mark the first at the newly-opened Garvoc Community Hub located at 4 Farrell Street, Garvoc.
The state-of-the-art facility was completed last year thanks to a joint funding commitment from Moyne Shire Council and the Victorian Government of more than $600,000.
“The new community hub and the auction being held on a Sunday for the second year will help to make it a more family-friendly event,” Mr Bellman said.
“It opens up a bit more space for the kids so it’s got a better feel and atmosphere for families.”
The Goods and Services Auction will return on Sunday, April 10 with a barbecue from midday before the auction starts at 1pm.
Anyone wanting to donate items or services last minute to support the auction are welcome to contact Adam Bellman on 0439 464 518 or message Garvoc District Residents Incorporated on Facebook at www.facebook.com/garvocdistrictresidentsincorporated.
