New initiative to welcome new residents
CAMPERDOWN Rotary Club is hoping the success of its first morning tea this week will see the new initiative gain traction for new residents.
The initiative, a monthly morning tea, aims provide new residents with a space to meet each other, have a chat and hear advice from locals.
Camperdown Rotary Club president Pat Robertson said the recent influx of new residents to Camperdown proved the perfect opportunity.
“They don’t often get the opportunity to meet other people, so we thought we’ll have a monthly meeting at a coffee shop,” she said.
“We’re going to support the local coffee shops in town and have a coffee and cake at 10.30am on the first Monday of the month.
“We’ll invite people who are relatively new to the town to come join us and have a chat. It’s purely social.
“Ultimately, we’d like to get new members to our Rotary Club and get people interested, but we also want to give people the opportunity to learn about other things that are on in the town – things that locals know about that are sometimes hard to find out about.”
The first morning tea was hosted at Sugarloaf Café, with a number of people turning up and enjoying a social morning.
Mrs Robertson said she was pleased with the turnout and encouraged new residents to reach out.
“It doesn’t matter if there’s only two or three,” she said.
“Come down, have a chat and meet people,” she said.
