AFTER years of planning and commitment from the local community, Lake Bullen Merri’s new boat ramp has been completed.
Boating access has been restored at Lake Bullen Merri’s south beach ramp latelast week.
Construction upgrades, which began in March, have now been completed and the ramp is open for use by recreational boaters.
Work saw the old ramp replaced with grooved concrete panels and a central pontoon installed for boaters to tie up to.
An underwater retaining wall has been built to provide some protection from waves and reduce sediment building up at the base ofthe ramp.
A new concrete approach and turning circle have also been added to make it easier when navigating down the steep approach from the car park.
The work was managed by Corangamite Shire Council and the South Beach Foreshore Committee of Management.
South Beach Committee of Management chairman Phil Russell said the committee was “rapt” with the final result.
“It’s fantastic,” he said.
“It looks terrific and the feedback has been positive so far.
“I’m looking forward to getting the area completed including the landscaping.”
Mr Russell said all those involved in the project were to be congratulated.
“It’s been a lot of work by a lot of people and they are all to be congratulated,” he said.
“We’re rapt to finally have it there.”
The project received $2.5 million in the 2021/22 Victorian State Budget.
