New seating for South Beach
VISITORS to Lake Bullen Merri’s southern beach can sit down and enjoy the scenery after the Lake Bullen Merri South Beach Committee installed new seats on the lawns of the reserve.

The seats were constructed by Camperdown’s Mens Shed and funded through a Corangamite Shire Council Ready Now Grant.
Lake Bullen Merri South Beach Committee president Phil Russell said the idea came from a member of the committee during a meeting following the movement of new trees to the edge of the lake.
“Someone on the committee suggested to put a couple of seats in the lawn area, and another person mentioned the Camperdown Mens Shed built some seats for the bottom of Mount Leura,” he said.
“We went and had a look at those and though they were fantastic.
“As a small volunteer committee, we are limited in funds, but then we became aware of the Ready Now Grants from the Corangamite Shire Council and applied for one.
“We were able to get the Mens Shed to get cracking and build us a couple of seats.
“It was then a matter of putting the word out and getting some committee members to meet up on site and install them.”
Mr Russell extended his gratitude to the Corangamite Shire Council and to the Mens Shed, as well as to the committee members who descended on the lake to install the seats.
“They’ve been terrific,” he said.
“Hopefully we can secure some more funding from somewhere else and get a few more seats – it’ll be perfect for people to sit and admire our lake.
“Big shout-out to the committee members as well – they do a phenomenal job maintaining South Beach.
“It was a perfect scenario for the way a volunteer committee should work.
“We’re always mindful of using local trades and supplies where we can – appreciating the fact we’ve got so much talent, expertise and supplies within our area.”
