New sponsorship to help local students grow
STUDENTS across the Corangamite Shire will have greater access to free programs to help make informed decisions on their future careers thanks to a new sponsorship between the Neil Porter Legacy (NPL) and Beach Energy.
NPL was set up in 2018 to help students across the Warrnambool, Corangamite and Moyne shires experience different occupations, meet employers and employees, ask questions, tour workplaces, and see how their classroom learning can be used outside of school to enable them to make informed career-based decisions.
The Beach Energy sponsorship is a three-year agreement which will support the programs to be rolled out across schools in the Corangamite Shire, including Timboon P-12 School, Cobden Technical School, Camperdown College, Terang College, Mercy Regional College, Derrinallum P-12 College and the Hampden Specialist School.
As a result of the funding, Corangamite Shire students will have greater access to NPL programs, including the Warrnambool and District Careers Expo, Creative Arts Industry Day, Trades Fit Expo in Melbourne, and the Maths and Science @ Work program, plus many other interactive and inspiring events and programs.
Teachers will also have access to a dedicated resource to help link local industry into classroom curriculum.
NPL representative Matt Porter said the funding will make a significant difference in helping students in the Corangamite Shire make informed decisions about their future career paths.
“We can't thank Beach Energy enough for this amazing support of our organisation and the Corangamite Shire,” he said.
“It will make an enormous difference to the number of programs we are able to run in Corangamite Shire and the support we can give schools and students.
“Obviously, the financial support is incredible, however we also highly value that Beach Energy want to be part of our programs and show young people the many careers in their organisation.”
Beach Energy’s senior community manager for Victoria Sharon Donovan said the organisation was looking forward to its partnership with NPL.
“Investing in the communities where we operate is important to Beach,” she said.
“We are excited to support NPL as they deliver such a meaningful program that will have a positive impact on many young people in the area.”
