NOORAT Scouts welcomed their second Grey Wolf of 2021 with Amelia Rowe receiving the honour last week.

Amelia was presented with her Grey Wolf badge last Wednesday evening at a special presentation ceremony surrounded by her fellow scouts, parents and guests.

The Grey Wolf Award represents the peak award in the Cub Scout section with a number of difficult requirements to be met before earning the award.

As part of the award Amelia organised a hike for herself and some fellow cubs along the 4.2km return hike from the Sundial Car Park to The Pinnacle in the Grampians, before being treated to some ice cream andadventure golf.

“I had to earn four level two badges, which is my cooking, weather, first aid and musician badges, and then I also had to plan a hike for my cub friends Matt, Jess and Elise,” she said.

“I want to thank them for coming along from the Sundial car park all the way up to thepinnacle.

“I’m really proud of myself, and thank you to everyone who helped me.”

The occasion was a point of pride for Scouts Victoria region commissioner west coast Rob Rowe, who is also Amelia’s father.

He said having two cub scouts attain the Grey Wolf Award in the same year during a pandemic was “something completely amazing” after years without the accolade being awarded.

“It’s something this group should be proud of and to strive for because it is a major thing to do,” he said.

“I am super proud as a dad to present Amelia with her Grey Wolf badge because she has done it herself, which probably makes me most proud.”

Terang College principal Kath Tanner was among the guests in attendance to congratulate Amelia and present her with her Gray Wolf badge.

“It is fantastic to work hard to achieve something, and that’s what I like about Cubs, Scouts and Rangers,” she said.

“You have to work hard to achieve these things and you have to persist when they get tough.

“One of the greatest things you can do is to do things for other people.

“Sometimes in our world we live in now there is not that many chances to think about others before ourselves, and in scouts you have that opportunity.”

Congratulations: Amelia was surrounded by family and friends at a special ceremony as she was awarded the Grey Wolf badge by Terang College principal Kath Tanner.
