Official opening to unite as one campus
MEMBER for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney has officially unveiled the new upgrades which allowed all Terang College students to unite on the one campus.
Last Friday Ms Tierney joined the wider school community to cut the ribbon on the school’s multi-million-dollar expansion to the Strong Street campus.
She toured the new library and learning hub, which includes a large open library space, four new classrooms, seminar rooms and offices which allowed students from the P-4 campus to amalgamate on the one site.
After touring the new facilities and meeting with staff, Ms Tierney said she was “very optimistic that every student will not only have a chance to shine, but will make wonderful citizens in this region, this district and indeed be very successful in whatever you choose to do or pathway you determine”.
“What I love about this project is learning is at the key,” she said.
“It doesn’t matter what year you are at the school, you all will be able to share with the excitement of using a facility that really does match the expectations of what we consider to be a good education environment.
“It is beautiful; it’s open, it’s light, it’s got soundproofing in certain sections, it’s well-resourced and it has staff attached to it.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you, because this is a true investment in this local community that will stay with you and the next generations for futures to come.”
Ms Tierney offered her appreciation to Terang College principal Kath Tanner and assistant principal Michael Castersen, who she said were instrumental in bringing the redevelopment to fruition.
“Thank you (Mrs Tanner) for your leadership, and being one of the best principals we’ve got in this state,” she said.
“Your reputation proceeds you and we do look forward to continuing our good relationship with this school.
“To Michael, who has been the glue that held this project together on a day-in and day-out basis, thank you so much.
“Thank you to the staff here, who are clearly working around the clock to ensure we have got a beautiful school community here.”
Mrs Tanner said the wider school community was grateful to have arrived at such a “historic moment in time” for the school.
“We can officially celebrate and recognise all students from Foundation to Year 12 are now on one campus,” she said.
“It is important to acknowledge the efforts and commitment of many to achieve our new building.
“We offer a sincere thank you to the Victorian Government for its investment in rural education, our appreciation of Michael Castersen who has led the combined project, and for every person who has contributed along the way – from the development of the idea, through planning and all of us at college while construction was on.
“We’re privileged to share this moment with Hampden Specialist School and are looking forward to continuing our work together so that all our students thrive.”
