Homegrown: Camperdown’s Grace Brown, who won a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Oympics, will officially be welcomed home at a council-led ceremony next week.

Corangamite Shire Council will welcome the home-grown heroes to the Theatre Royal in Camperdown on Friday, November 22 from 5-7pm.

In 2024, at the Paris Olympics, Camperdown-born cyclist Ms Brown won gold in the individual time trial and Bookaar resident Ms Smith won bronze in the women’s trap shooting.

Chief executive officer David Rae said the event was an opportunity for the community to celebrate the achievements of our 2024 Paris Olympians.

“Council and our entire community are extremely proud of our current and past Olympians and wish to thank them for their persistence and dedication to excellence,” he said.

“The area that makes up what is now Corangamite Shire has a long history of producing inspirational Olympians.

“Our Master of Ceremonies Peter Conheady will conduct a fireside chat with Ms Brown and Ms Smith to find out what it takes to succeed on the world stage.

“If time permits there will be an opportunity for community members to ask questions.”

A community-led reception for Ms Smith was held at the Commercial Hotel in Camperdown on Friday, August 16.

Light refreshments will be available after the official proceedings.

The event is free but for catering purposes, community members are asked to book at bit.ly/3O157P3 or by calling council on 5593 7100.
