One point loss ends Bloods season
A HEARTBREAKING one point final round loss has seen Terang Mortlake’s senior footballers miss the finals on percentage.

The Bloods trailed the Blues all day, kicking one goal six to one straight goal in the final term to almost pinch the game.
The 6.14.50 to 6.13.49 loss at the Terang Recreation Reserve saw the Bloods finish the season on 36 points, equal with Portland, but with an inferior percentage of 103.89 compared to Portland’s 113.58.
“Just a really disappointing feeling,” Terang Mortlake coach Lewy Taylor said of the loss.
“We certainly had our chances on Saturday.”
Taylor said it was not only Saturday’s loss but the inconsistent form of his team throughout the season which cost them a finals berth.
“We were only able to manage two wins in a row twice throughout the season.
“We just couldn’t string together wins despite playing really good footy at times against good teams.”
Despite the disappointment of missing finals, Taylor noted some positives.
“Being able to play as many young kids as we did was a real positive, some of them played nearly every game and developed well.
“I look forward to seeing them next season with another pre-season behind them.”
Will and Alex Moloney were best for the Bloods in the loss.
“They were both important, Will has been great down back, Alex has played some good footy and it’s great he has got through the year healthy.”
The Bloods had more forward entries than Warrnambool but didn’t make the most of it.
“We had more inside 50s but just couldn’t convert which was very frustrating.”
Terang Mortlake will now immediately move their focus to the 2026 season.
“We’re looking to keep as many as possible and add depth where we can.
“I’m very bullish that we can make a big impact next year.”
