One round remains
ROUND 13 of midweek bowls pennant was cancelled by the association in anticipation of the soaring temperatures - which was a sensible decision ahead of time.
This leaves just one round to play before finals, with Cobden Bowling Club’s division three side the only one in contention.
In division two of weekend pennant Cobden defeated Cressy 97-83 and should have no fear of being ejected from the top four, sitting comfortably at third.
They will, however, need to play second-placed Colac 2 in the final round.
Ben Robertson, Ashley Sinnot, Peter Richardson and Brendan Hutt defeated N. Keating, D. Stinchcombe, R. Alexander and L. Foster 23-21.
Noah Mungean, Kathryn Robertson, Brendan Hammond and Murray Williamson were unlucky to lose 23-24 to J. Carew, A. Keating, D. Parker and B. Dingley.
Nick Kemp, Micheal Hickey, Greg Rooke and Terry Beasley won 21-18 over John Spry, B. Mahoney, M. Turner and M. Horne.
Darren Mulgrew, Colin Hammond, Sam Thow and Bazil Hammond defeated S. Tanis, J. Nelson, J. Heard and C. Green 30-20.
Division three played ladder leaders Colac 3 on the top green at Lakes and were soundly beaten, losing all four rinks, 96-54.
This puts Cobden back down to fourth place swapping once again with Simpson, who also lost to second placed Birregurra, 64-83.
Cobden is only two points clear of City 3 who play Colac 3 at City in the final round.
Simpson will play seventh placed Lorne and Cobden face second placed Birregurra.
Cobden will need to win a couple of rinks and hope Colac 3 turn up like they did against Cobden to remain in the top four and play finals.
Division four had a bye and is currently in fifth spot, three points behind fourth placed Derrinallum.
They have to face off in the final round match at Derrinallum’s home turf which is always a tough green to win on.
Both their fates hang in the balance where the winner will get to play finals bowls.
