CAMPERDOWN Hospital’s operating theatre has received upgrades to better serve the community.

The upgrades were funded by the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund (RHIF), with funding totaling $800,000.

The RHIF provides vital government funding to rural and regional health services and agencies across Victoria so these services can continue to provide safe and efficient care to local communities.

In 2021, South West Healthcare successfully obtained funding to assist with the upgrade of the Camperdown theatre suite at South West Healthcare.

This operating theatre services general, ear nose and throat, plastic, reconstructive and elective surgeries in alignment with the capability of the service.

The funding was used to upgrade the existing theatre plant and equipment associated with the operating theatre to ensure the provision of safe, reliable and consistent reprocessing of medical and surgical devices.

South West Healthcare Chief Executive Officer Craig Fraser said the upgrades, which began in January and finished in May this year, ensure the Camperdown facilities remain state-of-the-art and allows staff to continue to deliver quality care to the community.

“This operating theatre services people from across the region and will assist us to further address the elective surgery waitlist in our region,” he said.

“We are invested in growing and continuing services for the community at Camperdown Hospital.

“With access to free specialist outpatient services, upgraded theatre facilities and a new state-of-the-art aged cared facility, we hope to be able to offer more people in our community access to high-quality healthcare close to their family and support networks, in an environment that is familiar and accessible.

“Camperdown is a key campus of South West Healthcare and we hope that a thriving hospital will help the community to grow and feel confident in its future.”
