Outage impacts Mortlake and district
POWERCOR customers in Mortlake and the surrounding areas saw a large interruption on Tuesday.
Impacted customers included residents of Mortlake, The Sisters and Noorat, with restoration taking 40 minutes.
A Powercor spokesperson said the outage impacted around 1580 customers.
“The outage was caused by a piece of wire dropped over lines, suspected to be dropped by a nesting bird,” the spokesperson said.
“From time to time, we do see outages caused by items dropped onto our infrastructure from birds who are busy building nests, particularly at this time of year.
“Our crews and network controllers are always ready to respond quickly and safely, as they did on this occasion.
“Customers were kept up to date on the outage via our SMS alerts and our outage map on the Powercor website.”
