FIFTY-FOUR paddleboarders braved the elements to paddle a seven kilometre loop on the Curdies River recently.

The third annual Paddle Peterborough event, which was held in honour of cancer victims Patrick Wilson and Kathleen Loveridge, raised more than $19,000 for the Cancer Council.

Paddlers included kayaks and canoes, but was mostly stand up paddle boards.

Patrick Wilson and Jamie Loveridge met shortly after Jamie’s sister Kath had passed away.

Only two months later Patrick succumbed to melanoma, aged 27.

In the short time the connection was made, and it continues to inspire Jamie and the Wilson family to raise money and awareness around cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Originally, the team paddled in Melbourne in Paddle Across the Bay, but when COVID cancelled the event the team decided to hold their own version.

A community event was held at the Peterborough Hall which saw a spit roast, raffles and music top off the day.

Donations can still be made via the Cancer Council platform at https://fundraising.cancervic.org.au/fundraisers/andrewwilsonandjamieloveridge/paddle-peterborough-2023
