Shrove Tuesday, otherwise known as Pancake Tuesday, is the day before Ash Wednesday and marks the beginning of the Lent season.

Traditionally, the day marked a time for using up eggs, sugar and fat prior to the Lenten fasting season, which lasts six and a half weeks prior to Easter.

Organiser Ron Simcox said doors will open on Tuesday, February 17 at 11.30am.

“We’re having it at the church hall, and we’ve had people come from other denominations as well as those who don’t normally come to church come down and have a feed,” he said.

“Savoury and sweet pancakes will be served, as well as tea and coffee.

“We’ve had the David Newman Centre visit in previous years, and hope they’ll come again this year.

“We’re hoping for as many people as possible.

“Thank you to all the people who are assisting with the event – even when they only do a small thing, it’s a great help and adds up to bigger things on the day.”

The lunch runs until 1.30pm and will be held at the church hall at 11 Church Street, Camperdown.
