FIFTY-ONE runners and walkers took to the Camperdown-Timboon Rail Trail for the return of Timboon parkrun on Saturday.

After parkrun events across the world were cancelled due to COVID-19, Saturday was the first opportunity for locals to take part once again in what has become a global phenomenon.

Timboon parkrun event director Dean Whitehead said it was “fantastic” to be back at parkrun.

He said he had taken on the role of event director from Donna Ellis and was pleased to be able to support the free weekly event.

“There’s so many people putting their hands up to volunteer. The community we have here is fantastic,” Mr Whitehead said.

The Timboon parkrun is an out and back loop which takes in a 2.5 kilometre section of the trail, starting behind the Timboon Senior Citizens Centre.

“It was a little wet underfoot on Saturday, but it’s nice running through the trees,” Mr Whitehead said.

“There were a lot of smiles on the way back.”

He encouraged anyone thinking about taking part to give parkrun a go.

“We encourage anyone who is interested to come down,” Mr Whitehead said.

“It’s for anyone, both runners and walkers.

“The youngest we had on Saturday was six years old.”

Timboon parkrun begins at 8am sharp, with event briefing from 7.55am.
