Pelicans seeking first victory
BOOKAAR skipper Tim Fitzgerald is confident a win is just around the corner for his young side despite two losses to the start of the South West Cricket season.

BOOKAAR skipper Tim Fitzgerald is confident a win is just around the corner for his young side despite two losses to the start of the South West Cricket season.
The Pelicans, who host Simpson at Frederick Street on Saturday, are looking for its first victory after successive losses to Pomborneit and Noorat to open the season.
“The results haven’t gone our way but we’ve been thereabouts in both games,” Fitzgerald said.
“Looking at the Pombo game we bowled well and were in the box seat and fell short and against Noorat we batted well and made 130 odd on a slow outfield but then they really smashed us.
“It’s up and down a bit, we know we probably need to improve our batting but hopefully a bit of luck can change and go our way.”
While the points have not flowed back into Bookaar’s coffers, Fitzgerald has found plenty of positives already.
He noted the side’s bowling, particularly against Pomborneit, had been consistent, but added their batting against the Bulls left more to be desired.
Against the Steamrollers, it was the opposite, with the Pelicans able to bat the allotted overs before Noorat dominated their bowling attack.
“The results have been disappointing but as a club we’re still improving,” Fitzgerald said.
“We’ve probably just got to look to score a bit quicker but in saying that we batted our 50 overs last week.
“Most times you do that you end up with some good scores.”
Fitzgerald said the Pelicans were looking forward to hosting the Tigers in its first division one match at its new home.
But he said it was a danger game for his side, considering another loss would see them enter the bye next weekend with 0-3 record.
“They’ve lost a few players and there’s a few unknowns about them. Just looking at the scores it seems they have a few blokes we didn’t really see last year,” Fitzgerald said.
“It’s a really good opportunity for us to win against a side coming off a loss and then the bye.
“We’ll be looking to post a big score – we’ve bowled well but we just want that luck to fall our way.
“It’s one I’m really expecting to win, especially being on our new home wicket. It’d be good start off with a win up there.”
