Pennant win for Terang

TERANG Golf Club’s division three men’s side has won the Western District Golf Association pennant competition.

TERANG Golf Club’s division three men’s side has won the Western District Golf Association pennant competition.

Terang’s two men’s pennant sides travelled to Port Fairy last Sunday to contest the finals of the pennant season.

In tough wintery conditions, the team of Angelo van den Heuvel, Paddy O’Connor, Colin Venn Max Kavanagh and Leo Beasley was successful in claiming the division three handicap section, defeating Cobden 3, 1/2 to 1 1/2.

In the division two scratch section, the team of George Beasley, Fred Beasley, Phil Beasley, Riley Scanlon, James Kenna, Nigel Bruckner and Caleb Kavanagh, narrowly missed victory, going down to Portland 4/3, with the final result decided on the 19th hole.

Thanks to all that participated in the pennant season this year and special thanks to Colin Venn and Phil Beasley for their coordination of both teams.

In Saturday golf, stroke for the monthly medal of May was up for contention.

Michael Sargeant continued his good form in claiming the medal with the final score of 85-14-71.

He claimed victory after a countback from new member Martin Wynd (15) 71.

Other leading scores were Chris Coolahan 91 (17) 74 and Stephen Grinter 95 (18) 75.

Nearest the pins: 3rd vacant, 6th Martin Wynd, 8th Peter Coolahan and 11th Billy Wood.

Putting: Michael Sargeant 29.

Next week’s event is stableford.

Tuesday “Middies” over 12 holes of stableford saw another good field assemble for this weekly fixture.

Dan Morrison, after a count back, with 24 points was the winner.

Runner-up was Billy Wood also with 24 points.

Balls down the line went to Alan Reid 23 points, Brian Carmody 23 points and Chris Salisbury 22 points.

Nearest the pins: 6th Gary Marr, 18th Gary Marr and 11th Billy Wood.

Next Tuesday is 12 holes stableford with a 9am hit off.
