There was a buzz in the air with many senior riders supporting the junior cyclists.

This gives young riders some handy tips and support on the road, which is particularly beneficial to those who are knew to the sport.

Senior riders feedback information to the juniors, which is key to the development of the club’s youngest riders.

This information can include cornering, seat adjustment, head checks, gear changing, or group riding.

This also helps the committee handicap accordingly, along with informing them on where to place more support within the race itself.

The club’s cycling educator Todd ran a session on core strength with the riders.

Todd discussed the benefits of these exercises to the group, and all had a great time trying out introduced skills.

Many grunts were heard while the team completed planks and other core strength skills in the grass area pre-race.

As part of AusCycling’s Collaborative Club Capacity Building Program, supported by the state government, Camperdown Cycling Club was selected to provide its juniors for this great opportunity as it has strong regional ties to the event, has a rich road-cycling history, and at the heart of the club, a strong commitment to junior development.

This is a reminder that it takes a team of volunteers to conduct a club and presently Camperdown Cycling club has a mightily team.

A plethora of senior cyclists gathered at the saleyards last Thursday night, however only eight of them made the official start line.

Matt Clark rolled off solo followed 30 seconds later by Quinn Clark, Finn Baxter and Matt Gstrien started two minutes later – with a further one minute to Josh Thompson and another minute to Oliver Clark (both starting solo).

Once again Todd Baxter and Shaun Thompson rode off scratch giving Oliver 1min 30seconds start.

Oliver put his head down and caught Josh around Podgers but the pair was almost immediately caught by scratch and only moments later Finn and Matt G were added to the bunch.

Meanwhile Quinn had caught Matt C and the two continued together out in front.

By the end of the racecourse strait it seemed Josh was the only one interested in coming to the finish line with scratch.

Weaving through the spectating cyclists scratch caught the Clark bunch halfway along the mad mile, Quinn taking time to exchange pleasantries as scratch rode by.

Todd led into Pasques corner, wound it up out of the corner and led out the sprint.

Shaun jumped away for the win. Results were as follows:

Shaun 23:56, Todd 23:57, Josh 26:32, Quinn 29:38, Matt G 27:57, Matt C 30:35, Oliver 26:12 and the wooden spoon awarded to Finn 30:17.
