Performance improves on Warrnambool line
V/LINE began 2024 with improved punctuality performance on the Warrnambool line, however both reliability and punctuality results fell short of performance targets.

Throughout January, V/Line recorded a reliability result of 94.4 per cent.
A V/Line spokesperson said the main causes of cancelled services related to train faults and obstructions on the track.
The line also recorded a punctuality result of 78.2 per cent, which was up from 59.8 per cent in December, with a temporary timetable introduced to assist passengers with planning their journey while critical works progress along the line.
Punctuality performance has been impacted on the line as a result of the upgrade works as Track Force Protection and temporary speed restrictions are in place along sections of the line to ensure the safety of workers, while allowing trains to run at the same time.
“During January, V/Line introduced a temporary timetable on the Warrnambool Line to give passengers more certainty in planning their journeys while vital upgrade works continue on the line,” the spokesperson said.
“We continue to thank passengers for their understanding as we work to ensure these critical upgrades can be safely completed, while minimising the disruption to passengers and enabling trains to continue to run.”
The temporary train timetable for the Warrnambool Line will remain in place on weekdays until Friday, April 19.
Weekday trains to the city will depart up to six minutes earlier from Warrnambool, Sherwood Park and Terang stations.
Weekday trains from Southern Cross to Warrnambool will arrive approximately six minutes later.
The temporary timetable can be downloaded via the V/Line website or the V/Line mobile app, and passengers are advised to check the temporary timetable when planning their travel.
Printed copies of the timetable are also available on request at staffed Warrnambool Line stations and the PTV Hub at Southern Cross Station.
Work has continued on Stage Two of the Warrnambool Line Upgrade, with new train detection technology and safety improvements at more than 50 level crossings being completed to enable VLocity trains to run to and from Warrnambool for the first time.
Work is also continuing on the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication, which includes station upgrades at South Geelong and Marshall, and level crossing removals at Fyans Street in South Geelong and Surf Coast Highway in the Geelong suburb of Grovedale.
Work progressed on cladding, utilities installation and canopy roofing on the new station buildings at Marshall and South Geelong, along with critical track drainage and landscaping works between Marshall Station and Barwon Heads Road when coaches replaced trains for nine days in early February.
