Pirates raise funds for charity

STUDENTS at Camperdown College’s junior campus became swashbucklers for a worthy cause.

The school held a Pirate Day recently, with students donning pirate costumes to raise funds for the Brain Cancer Centre.

The Brain Cancer Centre works to drive research which will improve brain cancer treatment for options for patients in the future.

Their vision is that one day, no lives will be lost to brain cancer.

A variety of pirate-themed activities were held throughout the day, including pin the eye-patch on the pirate and a treasure hunt.

Year 5 student Zoe Unwin said the Pirate Day was organised by members of the junior school council (JSC) and JSC coordinator Rohan Adams.

“JSC members kept their eyes peeled for the best dressed pirate with competition winners announced at assembly - congratulations to Harvey Walsh, Wren Baulch, Archie Rantall and Susmita Barua,” she said.

“Students were also treated to cupcakes, hotdogs and juice boxes.

“It was such a fun day and was enjoyed by all.

“Not only did we all have fun today, but we also came together to help raise awareness for brain cancer and to honour past student Lachie Stephenson.

“We were proud to have raised over $1150, a fantastic effort from the Junior Campus.”

Students also received a video call from Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer founder and radio presenter Carrie Bickmore, who thanked students for their fundraising efforts.
