Place re-appointed
GRANT Place will again lead Pomborneit Cricket Club for season 2022/23.

GRANT Place will again lead Pomborneit Cricket Club for season 2022/23.
The Bulls last week announced Place’s re-appointment as the club’s division one men’s captain for the fifth season.
Place has led the club to three division one titles from 2018/19 to 2020/21 and a semi-final appearance last season.
In addition, the club has won two South West Cricket Association Twenty20 titles and had a semi-final appearance at the Warrnambool Sungold tournament in 2020/21 under Grant’s leadership.
Grant said he was looking forward to the upcoming season and was keen to go one better than the previous year.
“I’m really looking forward to another season with the Bulls,” he said.
“Unfortunately last season we lost to Heytesbury in the semis so we’ll be looking to go one better this year and bring home the flag."
“We’ll be aiming to go four from five (four flags in five years).”
Grant said he was expecting to retain most of the existing playing list but the club always welcomed news faces to its fold.
“We’re currently in the process of recruiting a couple more but in saying that, in rural areas people tend to be quite loyal to their cricket clubs, even more so than footy, so you tend not to see much shift between clubs."
“With no daylight savings yet, we’ll probably head to the indoor nets at Mortlake in a month or so to start some pre-season.”
Club president Dave Murphy said the club was thrilled that Grant, a well- respected leader and one of Pomborneit’s most successful captains in its history, had agreed to another season in the role.
