Plans unveiled for Colour Festivals return
THE Terang Progress Association (TPA) has announced the return of the popular Colour Terang Festival after a hiatus in 2025.
The beloved event will return to Mary Bradshaw Avenue on Friday, September 25 from 10am-3pm with a blockbuster event.
The event was cancelled last year after the committee of volunteers fell to just seven active members, making the event too large in scale for the small group to manage.
Concern surrounded what the future of the event would be without a boost in numbers, but optimism emerged in October 2025 when the TPA welcomed an influx of new members including Bruce Moore, Janice Harris, Caroline Smith and Daniel Pugh.
Terang Progress Association president Ken McSween said he was excited to see the event make its return.
“We’re hoping it comes back bigger and better – especially due to the strength of what was there beforehand,” he said.
“It’s been really good to see the excitement in the community.
“The amount of people who have been ringing up and inquiring has been great.”
Mr McSween said some early plans were underway to make quality of life changes without taking away from what had made the Colour Terang Festival such a success.
“We’re going to be shifting a few things around this year, with the entertainment moving down to Co-Op end and the trade up to the other end so the trade stalls are closer to the food stalls,” he said.
“Hopefully, we’ll be moving some of the crowd a little closer to the Civic Hall because it’s an area we’ve always included but the thoroughfare has been below what we see in the main street.
“In the Civic Hall this year we’re planning on having multicultural displays and dancing,” he said.
“We’re currently looking at having Nepalese, Indian and Irish displays while also having a school of dance performing, including an interactive dance where people can join in.
“We’ll also have a karate demonstration too.”
The event will include live music, a show-n-shine event with cars, trucks and motorbikes, a children’s entertainment area, craft stalls and food vans.
“We’ll have Rhys Crimmin, Demby McKenzie and Tommy Harrold among the performers taking the stage, in addition to some of the school bands from the Timboon area,” Mr McSween said.
“We’re trying to get a few more trucks because we’re hoping to utilise Shadforth Street for trucks, The Promenade for cars and motorbikes out the front of Terang Tyre Service – depending on how many we get.”
The event is kept free for all attendees, minus a $10 charge to access a kid’s entertainment area which will feature a jumping castle and slide, bungee run, minigolf and more.
A point of emphasis for the committee is to try and keep food stalls different from what is on offer at existing businesses, ensuring any traders are not negatively impacted on the day.
“We’re looking forward to the day because we estimate we had around 3500 people come through in 2024,” Mr McSween said.
“We’re hoping this year we can bring through even more.
“We’re well and truly underway.”
The TPA will be on the lookout for anyone interested in volunteering on the day to ensure the event runs smooth.
