Players contest Marie Astell Bowl
EIGHTEEN teams contested the seventh Marie Astell Bowl event at the Camperdown Golf Club last Friday.
The event, sponsored by the Astell family, is held in memory of Marie, a long-time club member, and is a celebration of friendship through golf.
The gentsomes competition is a modified form of stableford for teams of four, with the best two scores to count on each hole.
This year 18 teams entered, with players from throughout the western district.
Charles Astell was on hand to make the presentations.
The winning team with 89 points was anchored by Tracey Baker and included guests Sheree Scanlon and Jo Arundell from Terang, along with Mandy Dalton from Warrnambool.
Runners-up were Jenny Hillman and her guests from Warrnambool, Heather Haberfield, Sue Rea and Veronica Maddern on 86 points.
The best nine out with 45 points were Gabby Gill and Ros Brauer, with Melissa Hammond and Loretta Roberts from Peterborough.
Nearest the pins: 2nd Judy Walsh (Timboon), 9th Mandy Dalton (Warrnambool), 15th Jo Deppeler (Peterborough) and 17th Sherine Healey (Cobden).
