Plenty of action indoors

THERE was plenty of action on the mats in the Heytesbury Indoor Bowls competition this past week.

In division one, Mepunga 1 got off to a strong start at Camperdown and carried that through the match to win 19-13.

Timboon Lawn 2 hosted Cobden 1.

The visitors opened their account with three shots in the first two ends before the home side got going and picked up nine shots.

The pain continued for Cobden 1 as Timboon Lawn 2 played some strong ends and went home victorious 27-11.

In the third division one match, Laang-Ecklin hosted Timboon Lawn 1.

The visitors got off to a flying start and never looked back, winning 29-10.

Rounding out the division one pennant, Camperdown 2 was home to Glenormiston 1 but suffered a 10-21 loss.

The top four in division one this week are Glenormiston 1, Mepunga 1, Timboon Lawn 1 and Timboon Lawn 2.

In division two, Glenormiston 2 hosted Simpson and both teams started out pretty evenly with the visitors’ picking up four shots to the home teams’ two.

At 15-all with five ends to play, Simpson picked up four shots straight after and try as they might, Glenormiston 2 lost to Simpson 18-21.

Scotts Creek 1 was home to Glenormiston 3.

The home side ran out of the box with 16 shots to the visitors’ five but ends 10 through 12 helped Glenormiston 3’s cause as they picked up eight much needed shots to reduce the gap to fours

Singles either way progressed the match forward and on end 15, Scotts Creek 1 picked up three shots to extend their lead to six with three ends to play.

The comeback from Glenormiston 3 was a fast one but Scotts Creek 1 defeated Glenormiston 3, 20-19.

In the battle of the Mepungas, 3 v 2, it looked like the visitors would run away with the match for the first half.

Ends 11 through 14 were all Mepunga 3, picking up six shots to trail by three shots.

Singles either way on ends 15 and 16 didn’t change much but Mepunga 2 picked up two shots on the penultimate end to lead by five shots.

Mepunga 3 drew Mepunga 2, 15 all.

Also in division two, Timboon Lawn 2 was home to Cobden 2 and lost 18-21.
