Poachers upset Bulls
THE Poachers made Corangamite volleyball take notice when they brought down the previously-unbeaten Bulls in their round five clash.
Unfortunately, what they gained by beating Bulls was quickly undone when they were defeated by Stallions in the following match.
Third and fourth teams NOBTS and Stallions announced themselves as premiership threats by scoring double victories.
All of a sudden, the top grade looks a match-in-four with very little separating the respective skills of the four leading teams.
New team Pirates struggled against NOBTS but redeemed themselves by salvaging a draw when they played Slugs.
Ballbusters had a tough night but they will be far more competitive against Slugs in round six.
With four rounds to go before the finals, the competition is now sorting itself out but picking premiers at this point is premature.
Round five results:
Stallions defeated Ballbuster 4-0, NOBTS defeated Pirates 4-0, Bulls defeated Ballbusters 4-0, Slugs drew Pirates 2-2, NOBTS defeated Slugs 4-0, Poachers defeated Bulls 3-1 and Stallions defeated Poachers 2-1.
The ladder after May 21 – Bulls 36, Poachers 28, NOBTS 26, Stallions 20, Pirates 14, Slugs 10 and Ballbusters 6.
