Police call for care on roads
DRIVERS are being urged to take care on the roads following a speeding driver caught in Derrinallum during Operation Amity.
Lismore Police detected a 19-year-old Melbourne man allegedly travelling at 111km/h in a 60km/h zone along the Hamilton Highway.
The probationary driver had their vehicle impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $1610 and will be before a magistrate in coming weeks.
Camperdown Police Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Raven said the road operation held over the Australia Day long weekend was important to make sure holidaymakers were abiding by road laws.
“Police are out detecting speed and doing breath testing, so people need to be concentrating at all times,” he said.

“Especially with all the smoke around the area as well in recent weeks – people need to slow down if there’s smoke on the road.
“Be aware of road closures via the VicEmergency app or the VicTraffic, particularly down south – there may be some road closures around the Cobden and Simpson areas.
“If you see red and blue flashing lights, slow down to 40km/h.
“We are out on the road, so we want to make sure we get home safely as well.”
