Pombo games abandoned in heat
POMBORNEIT’S division one team has finished the home and away season with a drawn game at Boorcan.

No result was possible as the game was abandoned due to the heat policy.
Batting first the Bulls made 282, with Sam Darcy continuing his strong post-Christmas form with a career best 86 from 93 balls which featured six fours and two sixes.
Darcy featured in partnerships of 89 for the third wicket with Grant Place, who made 46 from 47 balls, and 70 for the fourth wicket with Tharaka Sendanayake (who made 40 from 43 balls).
Other contributions came from Tom Darcy with 24 and openers Matt Bignell and Dave Murphy with 20 and 18 respectively.
In reply, the home team made 1/78 before play was abandoned, with Finn Tolland the sole wicket taker.
The division one Bulls finished the season in second place and will play Heytesbury/Princetown at Cobden in this week’s semi-final.
In division two, Bookaar posted 9/243 batting first at MCP Oval.
Playing his 250th senior game for Pomborneit, skipper Matt Richardson took 2/49 from seven overs, while Sam Whytcross also took two wickets in his two overs.
In reply, the Bulls were 1/85 when play was abandoned due to the heat; Charlie Voutier making 38 and his opening partner Jack Heanly was unbeaten on 28.
No finals action this year for the division two Bulls, finishing fifth on the ladder.
Pomborneit’s division three team had the bye, finishing third on the ladder and will face Heytesbury/Princetown Purple in the semi-final at Boorcan on Saturday.
Pomborneit was sent into bat in the inaugural division four grand final against Tomahawk Creek at Pirron Yallock, posting 5/165 from their 30 overs.
Opener Wes Lenehan made 40 retired from 47 balls, his opening partner George Sadler made 19, Mark McInnes contributed well with 22 from 33 balls in the middle order, while the innings was finished off well by Patrick Johnstone, who made a career best 40 retired from 34 balls.
Captain Jimbo Reynolds contributed an unbeaten 15.
A caught and bowled to Patrick Spokes in the second over was a good start, before Tomahawk Creek looked on track with some solid partnerships.
A run out, then a wicket from 12 year-old Bailey Fox saw the score go from 4/71 to 6/71, but Tomahawk Creek kept scoring, especially when retired opener Darren Graham was able to come back in.
With Tomahawk Creek needing 21 from the last over, Bailey Fox was given the ball and held his nerve to see the Bulls claim an historic premiership win by eight runs.
Lily Van Es was the pick of the bowlers with 2/17 from five overs, Patrick Johnstone made it a great all round game with 2/23 from five overs, with single wickets to Patrick Spokes, Darren Fox and Bailey Fox.
Captain Jimbo Reynolds was awarded the premiership cup, with the team presented to the large crowd at the club’s "Bullnanza" event later on Saturday night.
The Pomborneit Gold women are through to the semi-final after a 66 run win over Tomahawk Creek at MCP Oval in the qualifying final on Sunday.
Batting first, Gold made 3/133 from their 20 overs.
Tayla Reynolds reached 30 retired, while Nellie Sadler and Rachel Dendle both finished on 28 not out.
Tayla Reynolds also starred with the ball, taking 3/15 from 3.4 overs, Rachel Dendle took 2/7 from three overs, with a wicket each to Samantha Coxon and Lucia Clarke.
The match was also significant for Tayla Reynolds and Samantha Coxon who both reached the 50 senior women’s games milestone for Pomborneit - the first players to reach this mark for the club in women’s competition.
Gold will host Apollo Bay in this Sunday’s semi-final at MCP Oval.
The Pomborneit Maroon women finished their season with a 90 run win over West Warrion at Warrion.
Batting first on an excellent turf pitch, Maroon made 1/139 from their 20 overs.
Skipper Janelle Whitehead made her second score of 30 retired for the season, bringing it up with a six to finish on 34 retired.
Tiffany Hay also reached 30 retired, with Emily Norman 23 not out and Lily Van Es 10 not out.
In reply West Warrion dug in but struggled to score runs, making 3/49 from their 20 overs.
Emily Norman with 2/15 from four overs and Charlotte Richardson with 1/5 from four overs the best of the bowlers.
In junior cricket, Pomborneit’s under 17 boys are through to the grand final after a five wicket win over Irrewarra at CSC Oval in Tuesday night’s semi-final.
The home team won the toss and batted first, and were cruising at 2/99 before spin duo Fletcher Tolland and Josh Reynolds combined to tear through the batting order.
Irrewarra lost 8 /13 to be all out for 112.
Tolland took 5/7 from 4.4 overs, while Reynolds took 3/9 from four overs.
After some poor early catching and fielding, the junior Bulls game certainly picked up, most notably two sharp gully catches by Ollie Delaney were crucial in shifting the momentum.
In the run chase, Ben Whytcross got the team off to a great start with 33 from 29 balls, Levi Cootesmith and Noah Riches with 10 and 12 respectively kept things ticking over, before Gavin Reynolds with 33 from 22 balls, and Fletcher Tolland with an unbeaten 17 guided the Bulls home with 10 overs to spare.
Pomborneit will take on Colac in Tuesday night’s grand final.
The season is over for the Pomborneit Gold under 17 girls after an 11 run loss to Irrewarra at MCP Oval.
Lucia Clarke took 3/4 from four overs in Irrewarra’s 7/67, Isla Nolan and Chloe Bridges both making nine in Gold’s 8/56.
The season is also over for the Pomborneit Maroon under 17 girls who had the bye on Sunday.
Pomborneit’s under 14 boys have very narrowly missed the top four after a loss on Friday night to Irrewarra.
Hugo Saarikallio top scored with 16 and Alex Huggins took three wickets as the Bulls were well beaten.
Pomborneit’s under 13 girls had a 32 run win over Colac at Elliminyt on Sunday and now await the result of the Irrewarra v Tomahawk Creek game on Sunday to see if they progress to the following week’s grand final.
Top scorers in Pomborneit’s 4/118 were Pippa Murphy with nine, Marissa Whitehead and Scarlett Saarikallio with eight and Emily Reynolds, Zoe Unwin, Scarlett Whitehead and Millie Bourke all with seven each.
In reply Colac made 9/86, with a wicket each to Emily Reynolds, Zoe Unwin, Pippa Murphy, Scarlett Saarikallio and Skarlette Wakeling, with some excellent fielding also resulting in four run outs.
