Pombo retains Hillman Shield
POMBORNEIT has retained the Graham Hillman Shield with a resounding 181-run win over Camperdown at SA Wright Oval on Saturday.

Batting first, the Bulls racked up an impressive 9/257 from their 50 overs on a good wicket, led by a big fourth wicket partnership between Grant Place and Tharaka Sendanayake.
Sendanayake made 103, his third century for Pomborneit, while stand-in skipper Place batted well for 53.
Earlier, opener Dave Murphy made a quickfire 20 while Luke Reynolds contributed down the order with 23.
Finn Tolland and Sendanayake took early wickets to have Camperdown on the back foot early, then followed by a devastating spell of bowling from Danussika Bandara who took 5/6 from seven overs; his first five wicket haul for the Bulls.
Tom Darcy also chipped in with two wickets as the home team was dismissed for 76.
Pomborneit was presented with the Hillman Shield to keep for the next 12 months, while Tharaka Sendanayake was presented with the Allan McKenzie Medal for best on ground.
The division two Bulls had a thrilling four run win over Heytesbury-Princetown at MCP Oval.
Batting first, the Bulls were all out for 100 in the 36th over.
Skipper Matt Richardson with 31 and Ned Uren, in his second game for the club, with 19 were the best of the top order batsmen, while junior player Josh Reynolds, in his first bat in senior cricket in his second game, faced 35 balls.
He made nine as the last three wickets put on 25 to get the team to triple figures.
The visitors were seemingly cruising at 2/69 in the run chase before Hunter Thompson, making his Pomborneit debut, tore through the opposition, claiming six wickets, while Hunter Reynolds with two wickets and Josh Reynolds with one wicket helped Pomborneit claim an unlikely victory as the Storm were bowled out for 96 in the 26th over.
Pomborneit’s division three team was well beaten by Heytesbury-Princetown at the Camperdown Showgrounds.
Garry Riches, with 12, was the only double figure score in the Bulls’ total of just 56.
The Storm had very little trouble in the run chase, recording a nine-wicket win.
The Pomborneit Gold women hosted Carlisle River at MCP Oval on Sunday, and batting first made 3/128 from their 20 overs.
Skipper Samantha Coxon made 30 retired from 29 balls, including four 4’s and one six; her fifth 30 retired of the season so far.
Nellie Sadler (25 from 35 balls) and Tayla Reynolds (26 not out from 23 balls) also made strong contributions to Gold’s total.
Carlisle River dug in early but found it hard to score in the face of some good bowling, eventually finishing on 4/53 from 20 overs.
Rachel Dendle with 2/4 from four overs and Nellie Sadler with 2/9 from four overs were the pick of the bowlers.
Pomborneit Maroon played Irrewarra at Colac Secondary College Oval and put in one of their best batting performances of the season with 5/106 from their 20 overs.
Opener Janelle Whitehead continued her great form with 30 retired from 35 balls, her third score of 30 retired in 2023/24, while Emily Norman had her best innings of the season with 31 retired from 27 balls, including seven fours.
Irrewarra proved too strong, finishing on 3/135.
Wicket takers for the Maroon team were Janelle Whitehead, Lilly Miller and Emily Norman with one apiece.
While Pomborneit’s under 17 and under 13 girls teams are already on their Christmas break, the boys teams played their final matches before they too break for the holidays.
The under 17 boys hosted Irrewarra at MCP Oval on Tuesday night, batting first and making 6/106 from their 30 overs.
Levi Cootesmith continued his great form with the bat, top scoring with 24 from the 30-ball retirement mark.
Others to retire were Bradey Fratantaro (14), Finn Tolland (14) and Brady Bernoth (13), while Fletcher Tolland finished unbeaten on 12 at the end of the innings.
In reply the junior Bulls put on one of their best bowling displays of the season in bowling the visitors out for 81 in the final over.
Brady Bernoth took two wickets as did George Sadler, with single wickets to Finn Tolland, Levi Cootesmith, Isaac Cootesmith in his under 17 debut, Fletcher Tolland, Josh Reynolds and Ollie Delaney in a disciplined team bowling effort.
The under 17 Bulls go into the break with an 8-2 win loss record.
Pomborneit hosted Cobden in the under 16’s at MCP Oval on Sunday; the visitors batting first and posting 4/129 from their 35 overs.
Gavin Reynolds with 1/5 from six overs was the pick of the bowlers, while Ollie Delaney (2/4 from two overs) and George Sadler (1/0 from two overs) were the other wicket takers.
The under 16 Bulls threatened at times to chase down Cobden's score but fell short, making 9/110.
Ben Whytcross top scored with a hard-working 31 from 66 balls, Levi Cootesmith was fluent with his 21 from 24 balls, Noah Riches with 13 and Ollie Delaney with 12 the others to make double figures.
Pomborneit’s under 14 boys hosted Apollo Bay at MCP Oval on Friday night.
