Pombo to showcase artistic talent
ART enthusiasts are being invited to enjoy a showcase of local talent at the Pomborneit Community Hall, with a fun night planned for the launch of the show.
The art show will be launched on Friday, August 15 to coincide with a trivia night for residents.
The exhibition at the hall, located at 2700 Princes Highway, will focus on art produced by artists in and around Pomborneit.
Organiser Heidi Barling said the art show, a main event for the Pomborneit Community Hall committee of management, was in its third year.
“This year will be a re-launch of our activities at the hall because of the lack of volunteers over the last couple of years,” she said.
“It’s getting better – people are deciding they need to socialise again.
“That’s why we’ve decided to run the trivia night and the art show together, so there’s a bit of a launch for the art show and it gets people together.”
The trivia night begins at 7pm and will see prizes awarded to winners as well as a number of giveaways over the course of the night.
Bookings are $10 per person, with tables of eight forming for the trivia and bring-your-own drinks and nibbles.
Ms Barling said the night will consist of general trivia, meaning questions will cover a variety of topics.
“Luke Reynolds, one of our committee members, is well-known for doing trivia and he’ll host the night for us,” she said.
“There’ll be prizes and giveaways on the night, donated by local people.
“The first prize to be awarded to the winning table will be $200, second prize is $100 and third prize will be $50.
“There’ll be a wooden spoon prize as well.
“We’ll showcase local artists who have put their exhibitions in on the night as well.”
The art exhibition will continue over the weekend, running between 10am and 2pm on Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17.
Ms Barling said entry to the art exhibition was a gold coin donation.
“It’s local artists and local talent,” she said.
“We don’t go too far out of the postcode because we want to celebrate what we have at our back door.
“The more people that celebrate these events, the better off we’ll be.
“We had a lot of movement in the area, with people coming in and coming out, so we like to get together so we can all know who each other are.
“It’s a good way to meet your neighbours.”
